Welcome to White Cap Charolais & Howe Red Angus
The Howes operate a mixed farming operation under the herd names Whitecap Charolais and Howe Red Angus. Established in 1950 by Elgin & Lottie Howe. Their sons Dale(Lois) & Doug joined the operation and Mike & Lisa are the 3rd generation working on the farm.
The Howe’s run two purebred herds. We started in the Charolais business in 1968 and have been active in the breed ever since. These Charolais females have been strongly selected for calving ease, fleshing ability, feet and udders. We are extremely proud of the set of Charolais cows we have put together over the years. We have over 58 years of breeding purebred cattle invested in our program focusing on sound cows that produce quality bulls to last. We have based our program on selecting high end herdsires and producing a base cowherd being made up of a larger portion of ½ and ¾ sister.
In 1984 we saw the need for hybrid vigor from our commercial customers and began to build a Purebred Red Angus cow herd. These cows are selected on the exact same criteria as our Charolais cows. We have strived to put together a set of very low maintenance Red Angus Cows.
The Annual Bull Sale has been held annually since 1991 on the first Wednesday in April. Since 2001 It is now held at the Howe Farm south east of Moose Jaw.
We have sent genetics to South America, Australia, Mexico, United States as well as many places throughout Canada. We have a great deal of bulls in the seed stock industry as well as hundreds of bulls working in the commercial industry.
The Farm includes 7 quarters of irrigation, which is irrigated by effluent water from the city of Moose Jaw. We grow about 1100 acres of oilseeds, corn, grain and alfalfa.
