Memorial Scholarship

The Tanya Howe Damsgaard Memorial Scholarship was established by the family and friends of Tanya Howe Damsgaard after her brief battle with cancer. Tanya was a passionate individual that embodied education and community service. Tanya grew up on a mixed family farm south of Moose Jaw spending her youth actively enrolled in 4-H and the Charolais breed. Tanya pursued a career in pharmacy through the University of Saskatchewan and practiced in Manitoba until her passing. Tanya was a strong advocate for education and preventive patient care. Tanya’s commitment to excellence was recognized by her employer when she earned the Pharmacist of the Year Award at London Drugs in 2009.  This scholarship is intended to encourage youth with a agriculture background to pursue careers in science and maintain a strong culture of community of service. 

This is a $1000 annual Post Secondary Scholarship Opportunity
  • Application deadline is September 15th annually
  • Available to Full Time Students having completed at least 1 year of Post Secondary Education
  • Eligible areas of study include agriculture, pharmacy, science or health sciences 
  • Can be at a Canadian college or university.
  • Selection criteria are: agriculture background, community service and academic performance.

Emma Russnak
​2022 ​Scholarship Recipient

Emma Russnak  grew up on a grain farm outside of Viking, Alberta and was very involved with all aspects of grain farming on her family farm.  She also worked with their horses, dogs and cats.  
​She is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in the college of Pharmacy and Nutrition, Doctor of Pharmacy program. 
​She will graduate in the Spring of 2026.

Lindsay Daniel 
​2022 ​Scholarship Recipient

Lindsay Daniel grew up on a mxed farming operation near Avonlea, Saskatchewan and is part of the sixth generation of farmers in her family and was very involved in her farm working alongside her family.  She was involved in the 4-H Beef Project for eight years showing steers and a heifer and also a member of the 4-H Light Horse Club for 2 years.
She is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in the college of Agriculture and Bioresources working on a Agribusiness Major, Field Crop Production Minor. 
She will graduate in the Spring of 2024.

Cassidy Sim

Cassidy Sim   grew up on a mixed farm near Hallonquist, later moving to Outlook, Saskatchewan.  She was a member of the 4-H Beef project for 10 years.  She was actively involved in herd management and animal processing for her families cattle herd.
She is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in the college of Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
She will graduate in the Spring of 2025.

Morgan Lehman  grew up on a mxed farming operation near Rosthern, Sask. and was very involved with all aspects of mixed farming on her family farm.  
​She was active in both beef and light horse 4-H projects.
She is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in the college of Agriculture and Bioresources working on a Major in Animal Science.  She will graduate in the Spring of 2023.

Emilee Bickley grew up on a grain farm south of Sylvan Lake, Alberta where she is the fourth generation on that farm.   
She was active in the beef, horse, crocheting and photography 4-H projects. 
She is enrolled at the University of Calgary in the School of Arts & Sciences working on a Bachelor of Science with a major in Zoology. She will graduate in 2027.

Daniel Mutlow  grew up in the Moose Jaw area  and has been involved with all aspects of mixed farming on his family farm.  
He is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in the college of Agriculture and Bioresources working on a Major in Agribusiness.  He will graduate in December 2020.

Blake Christmann grew up on a cattle ranch near Central Butte, He was a 9 year member of the Ernfold 4-H Beef Club and participated in several sports during high school.  Blake received a 75 year 4-H Generation Award recognizing the participation of his mother, grandmother and great grandparents in the 4-H program.
He is enrolled in the Faculty of Agriculture working towards a Bachelor of Science, with a Major in Agronomy which he will complete in April 2020.

Kaitlyn Harrison grew up on a cattle ranch near Craven.  She was a 4-H member in the Beef project and has been active in sports and volunteering.
​She is enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan  College of Agriculture and Bioresources working on a Major in Environmental Science.

Paytten Frankhanel grew up on a cattle ranch at New Norway, Alberta.  She was involved in 4-H with beef and horse projects.  She was part of a judging team at Agribition in Regina and placed 4th as an individual.  She attended Lakeland College where she studied Animal Science Technology.  She is currently enrolled at the University of Alberta in the Faculty of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences working on a major in Animal Science and will be entering her final year in the fall of 2020.

 Charlene Patterson 
Charlene is enrolled in a Master’s of Physiotherapy at the University of Saskatchewan. She grew up on the Double C Red Angus farm near Foam Lake, SK. Charlene was heavily involved in 4-H as a youth in beef and horse clubs. She worked at the Cosmopolitan learning center as Life Skills support worker for individuals with developmental disabilities.  Charlene is also passionate about active living. She is personal trainer, swimming instructor and volleyball coach.

Shelby is studying Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan. Shelby is involved in her family farm, Horseshoe E Charolais at Kenaston, SK. She’s been showing cattle at Agribition every year since she was 9 years old.  Shelby has been active the in 4-H and the Canadian Charolais Youth Association, having served as a National Director for the CCYA .  She also is active in sports, playing basketball, volleyball and track. ​

Our first recipient of the Tanya Howe Damsgaard Memorial Scholarship is Katie Joe Stehr. Katie hails from Swan River, Manitoba. She's currently pursuing her Master's degree in Animal Science at University of Saskatchewan. Katie's passion for agriculture, community service and science is outstanding.
